Celebrating 25 Years

     by Darren the CoasterBear

Next month brings us a pretty BIG cause to celebrate, I’m talking really BIG!  The Sacramento Valley Bears (SVB) turns 25 this Octobear, and we’re going to celebrate with a BIG gala in honor of this historic milestone.  Bears from all over the valley (and beyond) will congregate and come together in bear brotherhood to celebrate all the good times and many achievements over the last 25 years.

Every five years, the club throws a BIG shindig to celebrate itself.  Our silver anniversary celebration is gearing up, and is sure to be the biggest bash to date! It’s gonna be epic, and on a grand scale!!  Festivities begin with a classy, anniversary meet & greet.  Enjoy libations and/or soft drinks from the no-host bar, served up by handsome Aaron Thomas Piccirillo, one of our favorite bartender from the Bolt.  A delicious meal will be provided by Hannibal’s Catering will be served buffet style for all to enjoy at tastefully decorated tables complete with special anniversary centerpieces.  Top off your meal with a delicious piece of silver anniversary cake while entertained by a few special presentations.  One such presentation will highlight the origins, formation, and involvement of our long-forgotten co-founder, Raul Ortiz.  Afterwards, the celebration continues with our BIG Bear Dance Party!!!  Dance off those extra calories with an awesome dance-mix, spun-out by our very own, DJ Bill King.  There will also be a silent auction, with the grand prize is a pair of Lazy Bear Weekend 2019 Dog Tags.

Now, if we could only find the perfect venue, one distinguished and elegant enough to turn our celebration into the perfect evening.  Well, we found it, we booked it, we secured it.  It’s a real gem, and we are very excited to have found it.  The Grand Hall at the Clunie Community Center is the site of our celebration, and will be transformed into a kind of “Bear Prom” motif for the evening's festivities.  Located in historic McKinley Park, the center is an 82 year old, three-story brick building which boasts an beautiful Art Deco lobby, hardwood floors and is reminiscent of the 1930s throughout.  You might want to arrive early, so you can take a stroll with someone special out by the duck pond and through the rose garden at this lovely & charming park.

A celebration of this caliber wouldn’t be complete without the presence of the SVB alumni!  After 25 years, we’ve got a ton of Bears who’ve moved on for one reason or another.  We don’t take it personally, everyone has their reasons.  And if some bears grow to no longer need the SVB, then I guess we did our job.  Whatever the reason, it’s hard to imagine that their time with us didn't have some sort of impact resulting in the enhancement of a Bear's life, in one way or another, right?  We know who you are, we remember them all, but don’t know where to find them.  Hopefully they follow our website and/or facebook page and are reading this now.  Nevertheless, if you know of any former membears hiding in their dens, hit 'em up and tell them “by royal command, all former SVB membears are respectfully requested to attend.”
